RETRATOS NATURALES
2011-2014_
The works comprising the series “Retratos Naturales” (“Natural Portraits”) are the fruit of a trip in 2011 to visit some friends who run a seed company. We visited their enormous garden out in the countryside, where they cultivate plants for seed. They treat it as something sacred, and the truth is that it is.
The more I looked at these plants, the more they stimulated my creativity.
On rediscovering nature and the vibrations that it silently sends me, I wanted to translate it into images. Paintings in black and white, with shades of grey, sometimes subtly hint at colour. With the series “Retratos Naturales”, my aim is to make visible the soul of plants, to tease out their almost human presence, and to show the importance of nature to us all.
All the works is with Indian ink (and acrylic when colour is used) on paper / 30X40 cm. Produced between 2011 and 2014. The series currently contains 40 works.
Art is contemplation. It is the pleasure of the mind
which searches into nature and which there divines
the spirit of which nature herself is animated.
